New EiiF study: The con­tri­bu­tion of insulation to the de­car­bon­isation of in­dustry

In view of the chal­lenge to achieve cli­mate neut­ral­ity, the new EiiF study high­lights the great sav­ings po­ten­tial of in­su­la­tion of tech­nical in­stall­a­tion in in­dustry and build­ings. The EiiF Study 2021 provides comprehensive information about the energy and CO2 savings potential of European industry.

  • Did you know that in the European Union the total energy savings potential of industrial insulation corresponds to the total annual energy consumption of all households in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia combined?

  • And that the payback period for improving industrial insulation is on average two years only?​

Especially regarding the “Green Deal" – EU's aim to become climate-neutral by 2050 – the realisation of the large potential of insulation to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption could lead to great benefits within the insulation industry and especially for the environment.

Up­grad­ing in­su­la­tion sys­tems to en­ergy ef­fi­cient levels adds value and of­fers mul­tiple be­ne­fits such as re­duced an­nual green­house gas emis­sions by 40Mt and an­nual en­ergy sav­ings in in­dustry of 14 Mtoe as well as lower en­ergy con­sump­tion for plant op­er­at­ors and as­set own­ers.

The findings show that insulation standards according to the VDI 4610 guideline would result in great environmental plus financial advantages throughout the industry. Considering that necessary insulation technology already exists for an affordable price, the knowledge about these strong benefits needs to be spread within the industry to support the contribution of insulation to decarbonise the industry and reaching EU climate aims.
