KAEFER Group wins major contract in the world's northernmost city

On October 1st, Statoil awarded KAEFER IKM in Norway, in collaboration with Aker Stord and Aker Kvaerner Elektro, the Snøhvit gas fields hook-up contract for a new LNG plant at Melkøya, a small island near Hammerfest.
The gas reserves in Snøvhit were discovered in 1984 in a field located in the Barents Sea 140 km off the Norwegian coast. Statoil is responsible for planning the work at Melkøya, while the German contractor Linde is in charge of engineering and is acting as technical assistant to Statoil during the construction of the LNG plant. The total investment for the project comes to approx. 4.5 billion €. The new plant will deliver LNG to markets in the US and Spain.

The total volume of the contract will amount to approx. 200 mill. €. Altogether 1.6 million man hours will be needed to carry out the joint venture at Melkøya. KAEFER IKM is in charge of insulation, scaffolding and surface protection (Integrated Services). These tasks will require approx. 770,000 man hours. The work at Melkøya will commence in April 2004 and will be completed in the course of the year 2005. This is the largest multi-task onshore contract ever awarded to the KAEFER Group and a huge success for the Norwegian KAEFER subsidiary!
